Waiting for Daddy
Daddy is talking to somebody about a job, and we're keeping ourselves amused in the car while we wait. Good thing we brought the books!

Halloween Fun
Emily spent the day next door with our neighbor, who watches her for us every now and then. Ken and I were busy moving things from a storage space across town to a garage here on the property. Emily stayed with Miss Renee and her dog Roscoe, and had a great time. She wanted to wear her Minnie costume, but we talked her into wearing her special Halloween outfit from Nana Jo instead. After we got her dressed, she decided she needed a hat.
After we picked her up from Miss Renee's house, we went back home and finally got to put the Minnie costume on! We gave Emily/Minnie a black nose and some whiskers, and headed up to Vancouver where some friends had invited us for dinner and Trick-or-Treating around their neighborhood.
Emily was a Trick-or-Treat star! She marched right up to the very first door and knocked on it, and held up her bucket and said "Trick or Treat!" without any prompting at all - in fact, she was ready to go inside and sit a spell with her new friends! The only time she hesitated was when we came to a house with scary decorations and spooky noises; but once the door was opened by a little boy in a spider suit, she was her sociable self again. We met lots of nice people, collected a bucketful of candy, and had a very happy Halloween!
Not only did Emily do everything all by herself, but this is what I got when I offered to help her ring the doorbell at one house!
Minnie Mouse
Emily is very, very excited about being Minnie Mouse.
She has a little pumpkin bucket for when we go Trick-or-Treating,
and she absolutely cannot wait!

Feed the Birds
We went to the park this afternoon, and there were acorns all over the ground. Emily knew just what they were - she said "Look Mama, acorns - they're for the birdies to eat."
Then she held an acorn up high and beckoned with her other hand, and said "Come here, birdies!"
So cute!!
She's Lucky She's Cute...
This afternoon I was sitting at my desk, checking my classwork and skimming through my emails, when I heard an odd noise behind me. I turned around and Emily was standing in the corner of the living room, taking sips of her juice and then spitting the juice onto the carpet!
She was practicing diligently, and was very startled when I called her name and told her to stop it! I wanted both to bop her on the head and to just fall down laughing. However, I held it together and simply tried to explain to her that it's okay to spit when she brushes her teeth, but that she mustn't spit on the carpet.
Daddy's Birthday Present
My daddy had a birthday, and he said his favorite birthday present was from Nana Jo and Grampa. We went to the store and I got to sit in a bunch of different chairs. Daddy found a big comfy purple rocking chair. I didn't pay much attention to it at the store, because there were so many other things for me to look at. But then they brought the purple chair to my house, and now I love it! I have to keep telling Daddy to move out of my rocking chair, cause he likes to sit in it too.
Tonight, Daddy had to go to a meeting, so Mama and I had a girls' night in. After I took my bath, Mama let me stay up and watch a movie with her. She brought me my blankie and some juice, and I was all nice and comfy. During the movie, I took some time to work on my multi-tasking skills.
See how good I look in this chair? Don't you think this should be my chair, instead of Daddy's?
Lunch at the Market
There is a great little market down the street from where I work, and I go there sometimes for lunch. On Friday I worked a short day, so Ken and Emily picked me up and we went down there together. They had some chicken curry sausages in their meat market that I was really wanting to try, so we got those and a couple of other things, and our lunch, then went outside for a little picnic.
Emily was a good helper when it came to pushing the shopping cart. She still needs to work on her steering, but she's getting better - and she always says "excuse me" when she gets a little too close to anyone. (actually, what she says is "excume si.")
When we got home, Emily helped me use the tahini that we bought to make a batch of hummus, which she loves. Later, we used the sausages to do curry-style bangers and mash - very delicious!
Big Girl Bed
We never have found the hardware to put Emily's old bed together. I know we have it, and it's in the storage unit somewhere, but we've searched for it several times with no luck. We finally gave up and found Emily a regular bed, but we haven't got a twin mattress to fit it yet, so she's still sleeping on her little mattress in the big bed. Emily doesn't mind - that just means there's room for all her toys!
Wee-Ha!
Emily came out of our bedroom the other day wearing Ken's Jackaroo hat. She showed herself to us and then said "I'm gonna go ride my horsie" - which gave me just enough time to grab the camera!
Bathing Beauty

She has a new purple swimsuit now, with floatie panels in the front and the back.
Between that and the arm floaties, she can swim on her own now
with no help from Mama or Daddy!
Home At Last
Here are the first pictures of our new apartment in North Portland. I know most people don't care much about the apartment itself - you all are just waiting for pictures of our beautiful girlie. So, without further ado, here is Emily in her new home on the Columbia River.

Emily's 3rd Arts Festival
We took Emily to the Lubbock Arts Festival on Saturday, and she had a great time! She didn't even object (much) to being in her stroller the whole time. She got very excited about the model trains. She kept saying "chugga-chugga choo-choo!" (That's the picture in the top left.) She looked at lots of pictures, and listened to music. She even got out of the stroller and danced while the band was playing, and after every song was over, she clapped her hands and shouted "Hooray! We did it!"
Pretty Flower
Our rosebush in the backyard is taking off again. When we went outside to play, it had just one red rose on it. Emily learned how to smell the flower, and how to be careful of the thorns.
Wanna Color?
So we're going to the grocery store after picking Emily up from "school" - and when I opened her door to get her out of her seat, I found that she'd been amusing herself with a pen along the way!
This is nothing, actually - you should see her baby!
Birthday Party
It was a small gathering, but you'd never know it by the mountain of presents!
We all had cake and ice cream, and Emily didn't have to have a bath with all her clothes on this year -
by now, she knows what cake is and what to do with it!
She got a Sesame Street Alphabet Bus from Nana Jo & Grampa.
They took her to Toys R Us and let her play, then bought the toy she played with most!
She also got a cool little bowl with a spoon & fork from Aunt Meaghan & Uncle Michael.
She really liked trying these out - they're just her size, and they have fishies on them!
New Year's Day 2009
Daddy wasn't home on New Year's Day;
he had to go to California for school.
So Emily & I stayed home and ate ham & black-eyed peas
and watched the Rose Parade.
