Grandmother

Emily's Great-Grandmother left us on 26 December, 2007.

We love her very much, and we will miss her.

Christmas in the Mountains

We all went to Nana Jo and Grampa's house in Capitan for Christmas - the Vinsons, the Walls, the Browns, and the Barrons (that is: Nana Jo, Grampa, Mamaw, Aunt Meaghan, Uncle Michael, Jackson, our family, and Aunt Ruby and Uncle Jim.)

..Christmas_girl_2

Emily had a great time, she played with everything - but especially Nana Jo's snowmen! She learned how to pull up and get on her feet, and she worked hard on getting that second top tooth to come through.

Teething

She got to sit at the big table and have Christmas dinner with everybody - she had ham and green beans, and bread, and a little bit of macaroni & cheese, and some mandarin orange pieces. When it came time to open presents Emily wasn't really into it, but there was a lot of fun stuff for her to play with.

Ken and I had to leave early on the morning after Christmas to come to L.A., but we left Emily with a whole crowd of adoring relatives who will take very good care of her.

Presents

Going Vertical

Vertical
Look at me - I can sit up on my knees!

I don't have to be holding on to anything. I just happened to be playing with the chair when Mama took the picture.

I like this new thing. Now I can get into bookshelves, and the movies in the entertainment center, and the computer cords under Grammy's chair...much better than I could from on the floor.

Meeting Santa

Emily_santa

We went to the Ranching Heritage Center's annual Christmas event, and as usual, we froze our toes off! But it was worth it to see all the neat old houses, and to get to introduce Emily to Santa Claus.

It's Christmas!!

As everybody in Lubbock knows, it's not Christmas until you've made the trip to Holland Gardens to see all the pretty things. Emily may not look too enthused - but believe me, she was fascinated! (I think she was annoyed with me for making her look away from the trees so I could take her picture.)

Chillin' Out

Baby_cool

It got COLD over the holiday weekend, so I got to be all bundled up
in my new jean jacket and my silly hat. Don't I look cool?

Thanksgiving

We had a good Thanksgiving. Mama cooked for two days and the whole house smelled just yummy! Aunt Kathi and Uncle Norman and my cousins Tylor and Haylei came over to eat with us, and they played with me a lot. It was kinda weird having so many people in my house, but I decided it was fun. I was ready to go to bed though, by the time they all went home.

The only bad part was that I was sick. I got sick the day before everybody came over, and Dr. Brown wasn't there to make me better, so Mama talked to the nurses on the phone a lot. I got to drink lots of yummy juice and take cool baths in my duckie tub. The water was nice, cause I was very hot! I went to a different doctor yesterday, and she played with me and gave me some medicine, and now I'm feeling a little better.

Halloween

We spent Halloween at our church's Fall Festival, with Emily dressed up as Tigger.

Tigger_2

Ain't she cute?

The thing started at 6:30, and she was crashed out by 7:15! I ended up taking her home and putting her to bed, then coming back to the Fall Fest to help our Small Group serve hot chocolate to the masses.

There were lots of other kids at the Fall Festival, too - here are some of my favorites:

Beatnik Baby

I dressed Emily all in black to go under her Tigger suit,
so she looked like a little beatnik -
the black-on-black definitely made her look like a baby with attitude!

Artsy

Scary Daddy

Everybody says my daddy's costume was the scariest one!
I don't really get it, but that's ok...

Red_riding_hood_2

He had neat hair that I could play with,
but then he took it off!

Mama's hair doesn't come off when I play with it.
I wonder how that works?

Round and Round

Boi-oi-oi-inggg!

Thumb-suckin'

Thumb
You gotta problem with it??

Sweet & Sour

We got to eat lots of good seafood while we were on the coast...and Emily got to try some new foods, too.

Baby in the Other Room

There wasn't a whole lot for Emily to do in Corpus Christi, especially since we didn't have very much time, but she liked the hotel room, and she found another friend to play with!

Vacation

Looking_over_the_menu_2

We're on vacation in Corpus Christi! We've had a lot of fun, put our feet in the Gulf of Mexico, and eaten lots of good food!

Kiddie_plate

She seemed to like the dishes as much as she liked the food!

New Friend

Emily has discovered the other baby, who lives in her exersaucer.

Fun with Family

Emily's Mamaw and Aunt Ruby & Uncle Jim came to visit today.
Boy, did they have fun!

015_2

When it was time for Emily's juice, she had to show Aunt Ruby & Uncle Jim
how she can hold her bottle all by herself. They were very impressed.

Emily was very excited to have so many people in her house! She got to show off for everybody. She showed them all how well she can talk and sing now, and she even coughed for Uncle Jim - she doesn't do that very often, but Uncle Jim was coughing, so she had to join in and help. Emily thinks coughing is hilarious, and apparently Uncle Jim agreed with her, cause he laughed a lot.

At the Fair

The South Plains Fair was here this week, and we went to taste the food and see all the things people made. (We don't ride the rides at the fair; they go up overnight and come back down overnight - and I've known some of the people who do that job, and they do not make me want to put my life in their hands!!)

But we had some yummy food, and saw lots of neat people and cool stuff.

Tummy Time

I was hoping to document some of Emily's early efforts at crawling...
but she's pretty much content to stay where she is and look around.

I Have Teeth!

Ok, the batteries in the camera were low, so it's a bit fuzzy...
but this is the only way we could get photographic evidence of Emily's teeth!

Words Fail Me

Sept_8_008

This is how we found her, I swear - and she is sound asleep!

Grabby Hands

This makes me think of a celebrity facing off with the paparazzi!
But no...Emily just wants to play with the camera.

Garage Sale

We had a garage sale on Saturday and finally got rid of all the old useless stuff that we're tired of moving around.

Garage_sale_1

Emily was a big help. She had the very important job of watching the money - and the doughnuts!

Garage_sale_2

Garage_sale_3

As you can see, she took her job very seriously.

The garage sale was a big success! We sold all the big stuff, delivered the old washer/dryer set to a lady who really needed it, took the rest to Goodwill, and were finished by noon! Then we went shopping with the garage sale money, and got some new clothes and toys for Miss Emily...as well as some books for us, from the Hasting's that's going out of business and had all their books 1/2 off. And by the end of the day, we were all pooped!

Lunch with Aunt Meaghan and Uncle Michael

Meaghan & Michael were in Plainview this weekend for a wedding, and we had lunch with them after church on Sunday. Emily and Jackson were fascinated with one another, even though Emily was sleepy and Jackson was just ready to get down and practice his new walking skills. The Little League World Series was on while we ate lunch, so we got to see our Lubbock Westerners win the consolation bracket and take their official position as the third-place Little League team in the world. Aunt Meaghan brought Emily some more clothes that she can wear when she's a bit bigger - we like it when Aunt Meaghan comes to visit! After lunch we went outside and Jackson showed Emily how to walk...but I don't think she's quite ready to start practicing just yet.

Duckie!

Now that we're sitting up so well, we decided it was time to try out the duckie bathtub that Mama's friend Kristen got for Emily. It's been lots of fun so far!

Vacation

We got to spend last weekend at Grampa & Nana Jo's house in the mountains, and it was a lot of fun! Emily had a great time; we took some of her toys from home, and there was lots of new, interesting stuff to look at and explore.

Playing_at_nana_jos Grampa_emily

Emily loves her Grampa! He kept her well entertained for the whole weekend.

Yummy_coaster

Of all the pretty things at Nana Jo & Grampa's house, Emily thought Nana Jo's beaded coasters were the yummiest!

She also got to go to the Capitan school, and met all the teachers there who work with Nana Jo, and we went to Grampa's church on Sunday and charmed everybody there! And she got a red shirt with a lizard on it that says Ruidoso (they didn't have any Capitan shirts for little babies.)

When it was time to go home, though, Emily decided she'd had just about enough of being in her carseat for hours at a time. She woke up outside Roswell and let us have it! So we finally stopped at a rest stop just that side of Tatum, had a bottle, changed diapers, etc., then packed it in for the rest of the drive home.

Img_2083

Luckily, after about another half hour, she fell asleep again, and slept the rest of the way. But boy, was she glad to get out of that carseat once & for all!

We had a fun vacation though, & we all can't wait to go back to Capitan again!

Sitting Pretty

Look at that big girl!

(She's playing with her toys on my bed
while I fold & put away laundry)

Applesauce - Yumm!

For my six-month birthday, mama wanted to get me a special treat (I like this "birthday" thing already!) So she got me some stuff called apple-sauce, and I got to eat it after dinner. It was yummy! Even better than the cereal that I get for breakfast.

Here's me in my new chair, munching away. Mmmmm!

056_2

055_2

But after a little while, mom & dad started looking at my head & making frowny faces. Mama said I had a big red splotch on the side of my head. Then they said I couldn't have any more applesauce until after we went to the doctor! I don't know why - my head didn't hurt or itch or anything, and they said the redness went away after they quit feeding me. I don't see the harm if I just have a red head for a little bit, if I can keep eating this new yummy stuff.
